Learn them, Live them & Make them your life

deskographyLess than 50% of 18-24 year old’s have read their Bible in the last week.

Only 16% of Christians that are 18-24 years old use the Bible for making moral choices.

Less than a 1/2% of 18-24 year old’s have a Biblical worldview.

There is an epidemic in the western Church today.

People don’t read the Bible.

It’s not just the lay people either. It’s the leaders of our churches, ministries and organizations.

I don’t have to tell you this…ministry with college students is tough work. Now we all know that not everyone believes that it’s tough work. Some just think we spend all day hanging out with students, trying to hold onto our youth, trying to extend the youth group feeling, eating pizza and playing video games.

But, right off the bat let me say this…

Campus Ministers work hard! And you deserve a huge thank you for what you do. The Church depends on what you do. So thank you!

With that said, ministry with college students is way to difficult to do on our own, without the powerful Word of God on our lips and in our hearts. We must reverse the epidemic that plagues the western Church today.

We must be leaders committed to God’s Written Revelation. We must proclaim with David in Psalms 119, “I will not neglect Your word.”

In his farewell sermon, Moses challenged the people of God to do exactly this. He challenged them to stay committed to the Written Revelation of God. And I believe that challenge is relevant to us today.

So, I leave you with a few verses from Deuteronomy.

Moses summoned all Israel and said:
Hear, O Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and Live them.

As leaders we must 1st Learn the Word of God. Study it. Meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1). Eat it. Chew on it. Talk about it. Do whatever it takes to Learn it.sb10063629g-001

2nd we must Live it out. Students are watching our every move. We must revive the integrity and character of church leaders. The fruit we produce must be the Fruit of the Spirit.

When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel,  he said to them, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.

A lot of things can become our lives. Ministry. Sports. Video Games. Paper work. Busyness. Meetings. Did I mention Ministry? But Moses reminds us that the powerful Words of God must be our life source. Make them your life. Make sure your day revolves around them. Make sure your semester revolves around them. Make sure your ministry revolves around them. Make sure your meetings revolve around them. Make them your life!

So, as the leaders of the church leaders of today and tomorrow…may we lead by example. May we revive the integrity of church leadership. May we reverse the epidemic that plagues our churches today. May we be men and women that refuse to neglect God Words. May we LIVE THEM, LEARN THEM & MAKE THEM OUR LIVES!

  1. Great reminder to put the first things first!
