I think every campus minister should be on Facebook. (I am there.) I would be willing to bet that 95% of the students at your university are there. In fact, Ed Stetzer, LifeWay research guru reported this week that 30% of Christian college students are on Facebook 1-2 hours per day and 12% are on 2-4 hours per day. (In my neck of the woods, these numbers would be conservative!)
If our students are hanging out on Facebook, it makes sense that we should be there, too.
Once you get there, you should join this group:
Useful Facebook Tips for Campus Pastors
According to the group description, it is basically a mailing list where campus ministers can receive some ideas on how to effectively use Facebook in college ministry. A guy named Jeff Widman runs the group and he gets paid by big companies to teach them how to better utilize Facebook.
I have received a few messages through the group and I can say that they are helpful. There aren’t a ton of them, so no worries about your inbox being flooded.
